Overview

About this course

ISO 29001:2020 is the quality management system standard for the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries. Unlike ISO/TS 29001:2010, which it replaced, it is a full International Standard rather than a Technical Specification, and it reproduces ISO 9001:2015 in its entirety before adding sector-specific requirements marked out from the ISO 9001 text. Certification therefore demonstrates conformity to ISO 9001 and to the sector additions together — a distinction auditors are regularly asked to explain.

The programme covers status, scope and architecture; the ISO 9001 core in a project and fabrication environment; then the sector additions at audit depth — risk management and contingency planning, competence and training, design validation, supplier evaluation and critical purchases, process control, traceability, inspection and preservation, nonconforming product disposition, and management of change. A dedicated module positions ISO 29001 against API Spec Q1 and API Spec Q2 as separate programmes with their own licensing regimes. The final modules cover certification practice under ISO/IEC 17021-1: Stage 1 and Stage 2, team leadership, sampling across projects and product lines, grading findings, the report and recommendation, and surveillance and recertification. Auditor competence is treated against ISO 19011:2018 clause 7, with examples from the GCC supply chain.

It is written for practising auditors, quality managers and consultants who already work to ISO 9001 and need sector command rather than an introduction. Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark; successful learners receive a verifiable SKEDMIA certificate. Approximately 16 hours of self-paced study.
