About this course
This course begins with a statement that some risk training avoids: ISO 31000:2018 is a guidelines document, not a requirements document. It contains no 'shall', no auditable requirements and no certification scheme, and an organisation cannot be certified against it. Any offer of organisational ISO 31000 certification should be treated as a warning sign about the body making it. What can legitimately be audited is the organisation's own risk management framework, using ISO 31000 as a benchmark, and the risk requirements that are certifiable because they sit inside other standards. That distinction shapes every module here.
The programme covers ISO 31000:2018 in full — the eight principles of clause 4, the framework of clause 5 from leadership and integration through design, implementation, evaluation and improvement, and the process of clause 6 from scope, context and criteria through identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring, recording and reporting. ISO Guide 73 vocabulary is used precisely throughout, because findings are won and lost on whether 'likelihood', 'risk criteria', 'residual risk' and 'risk owner' are used correctly. The IEC 31010:2019 toolkit is covered with equal attention to when each technique is the wrong tool.
The application half is where auditors earn their fee: testing whether a risk register is a live management instrument or a compliance artefact, whether risk criteria were set before assessment or reverse-engineered after it, whether treatments carry owners, dates and funding, and whether the framework informs decisions or runs parallel to them. A dedicated module dissects ISO 9001 6.1, ISO 14001 6.1, ISO 45001 6.1.2, ISO/IEC 27001 6.1.2–6.1.3 with the Statement of Applicability, ISO 22301 8.2.3 and ISO 37001 4.5 — what each actually requires and how they differ. The course closes with audit planning, evidence, findings and reporting under ISO 19011:2018.
Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark. Successful learners receive a verifiable certificate. Approximately 16 hours of self-paced study.
