ISO 37001 Lead Auditor Training

ISO 37001:2016 is short — barely fifteen pages of requirements — and deceptively difficult to audit, because almost every clause turns on a judgement the auditor must test rather than a document to tick: is this bribery risk assessment genuinely risk-based, or a generic template with the client's logo on it? Is the anti-bribery compliance function actually independent and resourced? Was due diligence done before the agent was appointed, or reconstructed afterwards?

It is written for compliance officers, internal auditors, legal and governance professionals and certification-body auditors, with particular attention to the GCC, where due diligence on agents, sponsors and joint-venture partners is a live commercial requirement. Clauses 4 to 10 are covered in depth — risk assessment at 4.5, leadership and the compliance function at clause 5, due diligence at 8.2, financial and non-financial controls, business associates, gifts and hospitality, raising concerns and investigations — followed by lead auditor practice under ISO 19011:2018 and ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015. It also distinguishes ISO 37001 from ISO 37301:2021 and shows how the two are run together.

One point runs throughout: certification attests that the organisation has implemented a management system meeting the standard. It does not attest that no bribery has occurred or will occur. An auditor who blurs that distinction is mis-selling the certificate.

Afterwards you can plan and lead a two-stage certification audit, build a risk-based sampling plan, interview on a subject where the interviewee has reason not to speak freely, handle evidence suggesting an actual incident, grade findings and write a defensible report. Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark, leading to a verifiable certificate.
