About this course
ISO 45001:2018 is the first international standard for occupational health and safety management systems, and it audits differently from ISO 9001. There is no exclusion mechanism to negotiate, protection of workers from reprisals is a leadership requirement, and clause 5.4 sets out the most prescriptive obligations in any Harmonized Structure standard: nine matters on which non-managerial workers must be consulted and seven in which they must participate. This course teaches you to audit at certification depth and to lead the team doing it.
The programme follows clauses 4 to 10 in the order an audit meets them, with sustained weight on the clauses that decide outcomes — 5.4, 6.1.2 hazard identification, 8.1.2 and the hierarchy of controls, 8.1.4 procurement and contractors, and 8.2 emergency preparedness. Systems migrated from OHSAS 18001 are treated separately, including the retro-fit signatures that betray a relabelled 2007 system. The closing module is lead auditor practice: team leadership and competence under IAF MD 22, Stage 1 and Stage 2, sampling across sites and shifts, interviewing workers and their representatives, grading and defending findings, and the certification recommendation.
It is written for practising and prospective lead auditors, internal auditors, HSE managers and consultants who already understand management system auditing and need ISO 45001 at audit depth. On completion you can plan and lead a two-stage certification audit, sample a multi-site, multi-shift organisation defensibly, and write findings that survive review. Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark, leading to a verifiable SKEDMIA certificate. Approximately 16 hours of self-paced study.
