Basic Fire Safety and Fire Fighting Awareness Training

Almost every workplace fire starts small. Whether it ends as a discharged extinguisher and an incident report, or as a fatality, is usually decided in the first three minutes by the people who are standing there: whether they raise the alarm before doing anything else, whether they can tell a Class F fryer fire from a Class B solvent spill, whether the extinguisher they reach for is the right one — and whether they recognise the moment at which fighting the fire is no longer a defensible choice.

The course works through that sequence in order. It begins with fire science — the triangle, the tetrahedron, heat transfer, smoke and flashover — then the classes of fire as used in the UAE and internationally, and the agent that is correct and the agent that is dangerous for each. It covers portable extinguisher types, colour coding, ratings, siting and inspection; the PASS technique and firm rules on when not to fight; built-in protection including detection, sprinklers, fire doors, emergency lighting and signage; the emergency plan, warden duties, evacuation, refuges and roll call; and prevention and housekeeping, from overloaded sockets and hot work permits to LPG storage and arson. It closes with the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice, the role of Civil Defence, drills, logbooks and what makes a fire warden competent.

It is written for all employees, and in more depth for fire wardens, supervisors, facilities and HSE staff in offices, warehouses, construction sites and hospitality operations across the GCC. No prior fire training is assumed.

Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark, leading to a verifiable SKEDMIA certificate. Approximately 12.5 hours of self-paced study. This is knowledge training: hands-on extinguisher practice under a qualified instructor is still required before anyone is appointed as a fire warden or fire team member.
