Overview

About this course

Most internal audit programmes plateau. Auditors know the clauses, complete the checklist, raise a few documentation findings, and the same nonconformities reappear two cycles later. This course is for auditors who have passed that point. It assumes you already know the clause structure of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, and spends its time instead on how to design, conduct and lead an audit programme that produces genuine assurance.

ISO 19011:2018 clauses 5 to 7 provide the spine: managing the audit programme, conducting the audit, evaluating auditor competence. Around it the course works through risk-based programme design across a three-year cycle; the process approach applied properly, following a real process end to end rather than clause by clause; auditing where quality, environmental and OH&S requirements meet in the same activity; interviewing top management and auditing an integrated management review; testing effectiveness rather than conformity; auditing contractors and externally provided processes; root cause analysis and why most corrective action fails; and calibration between auditors.

Afterwards you will be able to build and defend a risk-weighted three-year schedule, plan and run process-based integrated audits, write findings that survive challenge from a defensive process owner, and verify that a cause has genuinely been removed rather than papered over. The closing module dissects common audit failures with worked examples and gives you a method for auditing your own programme.

Assessment is a 30-question online exam with a 70% pass mark. Successful learners receive a verifiable SKEDMIA certificate. Approximately 15.5 hours of self-paced study.
