Overview
About this course
Most organisations in the Gulf now run a sustainability awareness session for the whole workforce — not because it is fashionable, but because national commitments, and increasingly law and customer contracts, require it. The UAE has committed to net zero by 2050, Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2024 brings emissions duties to organisations operating in the country, and ISO 14001 requires that everyone working under an organisation's control understands their environmental contribution. This course is the online replacement for that session, written for people with no environmental background.
It covers four topics in order. Why carbon matters: the greenhouse effect in plain language, and where a company's emissions come from — what we burn, the electricity we buy, and everything else. Energy and water: cooling set-points, doors and blinds, standby loads, vehicle idling, and why desalinated water is the most expensive thing coming out of a tap. Pollution: air, water, land, waste, noise and light, each with a workplace source, the harm it does and one action you can take, plus segregation and basic spill response. Then application: a personal action list for work and home, how to report waste, and a worked example of what 200 colleagues together save.
Examples are Gulf examples: air-conditioned offices and warehouses, construction and industrial sites, summer peak loads, long commutes and single-use plastics. The tone is colleague-to-colleague and free of guilt.
Assessment is online: two knowledge checks per module and a 30-question final exam with a 70% pass mark. Successful learners receive a verifiable Skedmia certificate of completion; the course carries no external accreditation. Approximately 3.5 hours of self-paced study.
