A working kit for organising first aid at work. First aid provision should follow from an assessment of your own workplace — its hazards, its people, its layout and how far it is from medical help — not from a box bought off a shelf. The checklist tests whether your arrangements would work on the day someone is hurt, and the forms give you the assessment and the records behind them.

Who it is for

HSE officers, HR and office managers, site supervisors, facility managers and nominated first aiders who are responsible for first aid arrangements and want to check them properly.

How to use it

Start with the needs assessment form and write down what your workplace needs. Then walk the site with the checklist: open the kits, check the expiry dates, read the certificates, and ask a worker how they would call a first aider. Put the kit inspection checklist inside each kit, keep the treatment log where first aiders can reach it, and review the log for patterns every few months.

The number of first aiders, the training they need and the contents of a first-aid kit are set by law in many places, and the rules differ between countries, emirates and free zones. This kit gives typical contents and good practice only. Follow your local regulations and your own risk assessment. Treatment records contain personal health information — keep them confidential.
