About this course
ISO 14064-1:2018 replaced the Scope 1, 2 and 3 vocabulary of the 2006 edition with six categories of direct and indirect emissions, and ISO 14064-3:2019 rewrote how those inventories are verified. This course teaches both, in the order a lead verifier meets them: organisational boundaries and consolidation approaches, the six categories and the significance assessment, quantification methodologies and emission factor selection, base year setting and recalculation, then the full engagement from acceptance through strategic analysis, sampling and evidence to the verification statement and, where the evidence demands it, a qualified opinion.
It is written for verifiers working towards or already holding a lead verifier role, sustainability and HSE managers who prepare GHG assertions for third-party assurance, and consultants building inventories for clients in the Gulf. Sector examples are drawn from the work that dominates the region — upstream and downstream oil and gas, aluminium, cement, power and desalination, aviation and logistics — including flaring, associated gas, cogeneration and grid factor vintage.
By the end you can set and defend an organisational boundary, classify and justify every category, test a quantification method by recalculation, agree a materiality threshold and level of assurance, plan and lead a risk-based verification with a documented sampling rationale, and draft a statement that will survive an accreditation witness assessment. Team competence under ISO 14066 and body requirements under ISO 14065:2020 and ISO 17029 are covered in full, as is the precise distinction between validation and verification.
Assessment is a 30-question online final exam with a 70% pass mark. Successful learners receive a verifiable SKEDMIA certificate. Approximately 16 hours of self-paced study.
