Waste Management Checklist and Waste Log

A site waste inspection checklist covering segregation, storage, hazardous and clinical waste, contractors and spills, with ready-to-use waste logs.

Waste is the environmental aspect almost every site has, and the one an auditor can judge in a five-minute walk: look in the bins, read the labels, ask for the last transfer record. This kit gives you a structured site inspection and the records that prove where your waste went. It is written as general good practice and supports the operational controls of an ISO 14001 environmental management system.

What is inside

Waste Management Inspection Checklist — 88 checks in ten sections: planning and responsibilities, segregation, storage, labelling, hazardous waste, biomedical and clinical waste, contractors and transfer records, spill response, training, and reduction and recycling.

Waste Log and Transfer Records — six templates: a waste stream inventory, a waste generation log, a waste transfer and disposal record, a transfer log, a waste contractor register and a monthly waste summary.

Both documents as a designed, print-ready PDF and as an editable Word file.

Who it is for

Environmental and HSE officers, facility and site managers, housekeeping and clinic supervisors, internal auditors and consultants — anyone responsible for how waste is separated, stored, handed over and recorded on a site.

How to use it

Walk the site with the checklist rather than completing it at a desk. Open bins, read labels, check the storage area and ask people where they would put a given item. Mark each check Yes, No or N/A and note what you saw. For every No, agree an action, an owner and a date. Use the inventory to list your waste streams once, then keep the generation log and transfer records up to date so that every load leaving the site can be traced to a contractor, a destination and a document. Review the monthly summary for trends and for reduction opportunities.

Waste law differs between countries, emirates and free zones. The kit does not quote legal limits, classifications or retention periods — check the legal requirements that apply to you and adjust the checklist and forms to match them. If you work to ISO 14001, check which edition applies to you.

Questions people ask

Is the Waste Management Checklist and Waste Log really free?

Yes. There is no payment and no trial. Tell us your name, work email and company once, and every document in the Free Zone is yours to download.

What format are the documents in?

This kit has 4 documents in PDF and DOCX format. The Word, Excel or PowerPoint files are fully editable, so you can adapt them to your organisation.

Can I use it inside my company?

Yes. The licence covers one organisation with unlimited internal use — print it, share it with colleagues and adapt it. Please do not resell it or republish it as your own.

Does this make us compliant with ISO 14001?

No document can do that on its own. It is a practical working tool to help you prepare, check and improve. Conformity with ISO 14001 is decided by an audit of your actual system, and the standard itself remains the authoritative text.

Do you offer training on this topic?

Yes. Skedmia runs online courses with certificates on the standards and topics these kits cover — the matching courses are listed on this page.
